Night Kākā

In 2022 I was painting this piece based on photos I had taken of the beautiful landscape on the south island and bird life imagery I found online. I had seen Kea on the south island, but I hadn't seen Kākā before. I was fascinated with the earthy tones of their feathers and the fact their most beautiful bright colours were hidden under the wings. I also wasn't intending for the mountain to look so much like Mt Taranaki, it just formed itself really - (Taranaki is the area where I now live).

Not long after I finished this art work an article came out about Kākā mysteriously showing up in Taranaki. What the heck! The headline read.. "Kākā bewilders experts as it swoops back in New Plymouth".
